About Alexis
Alexis has been living in Seattle since 2023, where she has established herself as an educator and working saxophonist.
Alexis teaches all over Seattle with a goal of assisting aspiring musicians in schools as well as the general saxophone community. A typical week of work for Alexis as an educator includes:
- Teaching saxophone lessons
- Directing the Jazz II at Ballard High School
- Directing the Jazz III at Lincoln High School
- Coaching Jazz Combos for Robert Eagle Staff Middle School
In her lessons and classes, Alexis strives to create a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to broaden their horizons, build their self-confidence, and further cultivate their passion for music as a whole. In May of 2025, Alexis was awarded the Andy Robertson Memorial Band Director Award at the Bellevue Jazz Festival for her work and dedication to her students of the Ballard Jazz II and III.
Alexis also does freelance educational work, including camps and seminars. Some of her recent endeavors include:
- Cougar Mountain Middle School's Solo and Ensemble Festival in March 2025
- Honk! Future Camp in April 2025 as well as their performance Honk Fest West in June 2025
- Seattle Sax Institute High School Session in July 2025
Alexis also is a gigging musician. She regularly performs with the Blowout Heavies, a New Orleans-inspired brass band, and frequently plays with multiple groups for wedding and corporate events. She also recently recorded a few tracks for an album with Johnny and the Moles, an eclectic rock group, that will soon be released. Otherwise, she is a freelance musician that books specific gigs and events by request.
Prior to Seattle, Alexis studied saxophone and jazz improvisation at the University of Oregon with Idit Shner and Steve Owen. Some of her accomplishments while at UO include performing her original compositions at the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 1 Conference and touring in Europe with the Oregon Jazz Ensemble. After graduating UO, Alexis taught high school band and music at Illinois Valley High School for two years, where she helped to build a small music program post-COVID.
